Oven Broiled Chicken Wings
If your backyard is still covered in 3 feet of snow like mine and you can’t get to your grill, then these oven broiled chicken wings are the perfect way to get a crispy wing with tender juicy meat. Season up your chicken wings and toss them in a brown sugar buffalo sauce for the perfect balance of sweet and spicy!
We all love a good smoked Traeger Chicken Wing in the summer, but when you live in the Midwest, that just isn’t possible all year long.

Broiling Chicken Wings in the Oven
You can ultimately season these broiled chicken wings any way you’d like, but we use a simple mix of spices. Here is what you will need.
Simple Wing Seasoning
You’ve likely got everything you need on hand to season up your broiled chicken wings. Grab a few jars from your spice cabinet and your favorite hot sauce from the refrigerator.
Garlic Powder
Onion Powder
Salt
Pepper
Butter
Buffalo Sauce
Brown Sugar

Preheat Broiler
Be sure to preheat your broiler on high to 550ºF for 20 minutes before adding the wings to the oven. If you add the chicken while the broiler is warming up, you run the risk of burning the skin.
To ensure you get crispy skin, but don’t overdo it and burn the skin, place your cooking rack 10 inches below the broiler element.

Crispy Chicken Skin
For the crispiest chicken skin, you need to do two things. First, you should prick the skin of each wing with the tip of a sharp knife. This allows the fat to render and the skin to crisp up better.
Next up, line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. You can skip the foil, but that makes cleanup much easier. Place a cooling rack on top of the pan and top with the wings. This allows more air flow which helps crisp up the skin.

How Long Should You Broil Chicken Wings
Add the wings to the oven and cook for 10 minutes. Using an oven mitt and kitchen tongs, carefully flip each wing. Broil on high for an additional 10 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and the internal temperature of the meat is 160°F.
If you want to follow the food safety guidelines to a T, then you can cook them to 165°F. By cooking them to 160°F, they will continue to cook a few more degrees as they rest and ultimately end up very close to 165°F without overcooking.

Saucy Buffalo Wings
While the chicken wings are in the broiler, take the remaining half of the butter, buffalo sauce and brown sugar and microwave for 90 seconds to slightly thicken the mixture.
When the wings are done cooking, toss them in a large clean bowl with the thickened sauce until well coated. You can return them to the oven for a couple extra minutes if you want to caramelize the sauce on the wings.
