Traeger Cheese Dip
Caramelized onions and roasted garlic are two of my favorite flavors in cooking. They add such an amazing depth of flavor to just about any dish. From Parmesan Caramelized Onion Dip to Cheesy Chipotle Turkey Sliders, you just can’t go wrong. This Traeger Smoked Cheese Caramelized Onion Dip takes the rich flavors of caramelized onions and takes it up a notch with your pellet smoker.

Pellet Smoker Appetizer
Traeger pellet smokers aren’t reserved just for big cuts of meat like Smoked Pork Loin. They can bring a rich smoky flavor to anything from vegetables to appetizers.
If you haven’t seen the huge trend of smoked cream cheese that people are obsessed with, you’ve got to check it out. This Traeger Smoked Cheese Caramelized Onion Dip doubles down on it with smoked cream cheese, cheddar, onions and more!

How to make caramelized onions in Traeger
To get started, grab a cast iron pan or any oven safe skillet. Add 3 cups of sliced sweet yellow onions along with 1/4 cup butter and salt and pepper. Crank your pellet smoker up to 350F and cook for 30 minutes. Stir and cook an additional 30 minutes or until the onions are completely softened and golden brown.

Smoked Onion Dip Recipe
Add a block of cream cheese and cubed sharp cheddar to the pan of caramelized onions and lower temperature to 185F so your Traeger starts pumping out some serious smoke.
Smoke the cheese and onions for 20 minutes. Stir in sour cream, grated Parmesan, red wine vinegar and chives. Heat an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheesy onion dip is nice and hot.
This smoked onion dip is incredibly rich and thick, but the flavors of the tangy red wine vinegar, sweet onions and fresh chives helps balance the fatty cheeses.

What to serve with Smoked Caramelized Onion Dip
The best part of this Traeger Smoked Cheesy Caramelized Onion Dip is that it is so incredibly versatile. If you are hosting guests at an outdoor BBQ, just pull the skillet from the smoker, give it a quick stir and serve it alongside a variety of crackers, bread and fresh veggies.
I actually brought this dip to a gathering, so I scooped it from the skillet and added it to a lined Mini Crock Pot. This was a great way to keep the dip warm for hours as everyone grazed on it.
If you have leftover smoked onion dip, I highly suggest using it to add a great punch of flavor to your next meal. Spread it on a sandwich with some roast beef, on some Hawaiian buns with chicken to make sliders or just about anything that you want to take up a notch!
