Chambord Drink

Back in my waitress days, I discovered this Purple Rain Cocktail and years later it is still my absolute favorite mixed drink! It starts out with the makings of a Long Island Iced Tea, which includes Vodka, Rum, Tequila, Gin and Triple Sec. Instead of the Cola that tops off the classic drink, this Purple Rain Cocktail is finished with Chambord.

If you are serving cocktails for a girls’ weekend or just want to try something new at your next party, this Purple Rain drink is sure to be a hit. Pair it with this Blueberry Goat Cheese Appetizer and you will have yours guests thinking you are an impressive host!

If you are serving this cocktail up to guests, add a sprig of lavender to really make it beautiful. If you love lavender, be sure to try this wonderful lavender spritz cocktail!

What is Chambord Liqueur

If you aren’t familiar with Chambord, don’t feel bad. Many bartenders I run across still don’t know what it is! Chambord is a black raspberry liqueur made in France.

Fresh blackberries and raspberries are juiced and soaked in French spirits. The natural juices and sugars are captured for a sweet base to this liquor and blended with extracts of black raspberry and blackcurrants. Cognac, vanilla and herbs are added and allowed to age to develop it’s character. With 16.5% alc. by volume, it adds a little more punch compared to the Coke in a traditional Long Island Iced Tea.

How to Make a Purple Rain Drink

While this Purple Rain Cocktail looks and tastes impressive, it is incredibly easy to make!

Fill a chilled cocktail shaker with cubed ice.

Add one shot each of vodka, gin, rum, tequila, triple sec and Chambord to the shaker.

Cover and shake vigorously. Pour the mixture, ice and all, into 2 high ball glasses and top off with lemon lime soda.

Garnish with lemon wedges and enjoy!

Chambord Mixed Drink

As I mentioned before, I first enjoyed this Chambord drink at a restaurant I worked at who had a great menu of Long Island Iced Teas. I’m from Minnesota, so this particular version made with Chambord was named after the late iconic Prince, our hometown superstar.

To be completely honest, I’m not really a big drinker. It’s a rare occasion that I get out and let loose anymore with twin toddlers at home. When I do get a chance to go out, like my recent girls weekend away in Duluth, MN, I always order a Purple Rain Cocktail.

Girl Drinks!

This last weekend, like many times before, I order the drink and the bartenders look at me crooked. I just tell them to make me a Long Island and swap the Coke for Chambord. Often times this leads to further confused looks as some less experienced bartenders aren’t familiar with Chambord.

My friends asked the our bartender this weekend what other drinks he makes with the black raspberry liqueur and he laughed and said this was the first time he ever used it!

Strong Cocktail

The reason I love this mixed drink is that while it has an obscene amount of alcohol in it, it doesn’t taste strong at all! This is a double edged sword. If you are looking to get a nice buzz, this strong cocktail is a quick way to achieve that. It can also sneak up on you very quickly, so consider yourself warned.

By the end of our weekend out, my friends were ordering Purple Rain Cocktails at the bars with me and they describe them the same way I always do, DANGEROUS. Haha!

If you are looking for an sweet stiff drink, then I promise you that this Purple Rain Cocktail is worth giving a try.
